My name’s Katie, and I’m a snackaholic….and the Founder of Mooi Foods 🙂
I have loved the cozy ritual of baking cookies for as long as I can remember.
It began as a 3-year-old in my mom’s kitchen in Whistler, Canada in the 1980’s. I loved the bonding, the togetherness and the magic of creation — turning ingredients into warm gooey treats that comforted and delighted the rest of my family. While my friends were playing with Barbies, I was devouring Martha Stewart’s every business move.
In my 20s I studied pastry and baking in New York City, and went on to work as a private chef to clients all around the world.
This lifelong love affair with sugar, cream and comfort food was only rudely interrupted by another obsession no woman of my generation would be able to escape – diet culture and the ‘Thin is In’ craze. (Thanks, Victoria’s Secret!)
In my 30’s, a friend challenged me to enter a fitness competition, and without thinking, I said YES. I trained my butt off and learned all about nutrition and how to track macronutrients, carbs, fat, protein and calories…and have been obsessed with this information ever since.
My personal conundrum of course, would be how to reconcile health, nutrition and body consciousness with indulgence and deliciousness? I wanted to create a delicious treat that not only ‘wasn’t bad for you” but was actually GOOD for you.
Enter: Mooi Foods.
I created these cookies out of love, health consciousness and a dollop of stubbornness…because I truly believe that it’s possible “have your cookie and eat it too”.
